About the Author

Thompson (for whom Thompson Hall was named,) was "principal," as the president was then called, of our predecessor, the Brockport Normal School, from 1910-1936. Like the principals did then he lived in what is now Alumni House with his family, and was quite popular with the students.

He was academically and athletically gifted, having gone to Yale and played football there. In a tribute to him after his death former students wrote, "We will picture him striding up the campus walk, his black derby square on his head... facing the Assembly, shoulders erect... as he advises, scolds, teases or entertains..."
