Description

This presentation will unfold the multifaceted issues faced in America by dissecting the life of a Rochester native and Brockport alumnus, Dre Johnson. Johnson’s personal story of homelessness and poverty will shed light on issues of racism, classism, ageism, sexism and more. The Brockport grad will educate and inspire not only by speaking openly about his hardships, but also by incorporating references to hip-hop, poetry, sports, and current events. His research includes cross section data collections, statistics, experiments, and a wide variety of peer reviewed articles. His unique style will be sure to paint a vivid picture of open-mindedness and equality through championing diversity.

Presenter(s)

Mr. Dre Johnson ’14 earned his bachelor’s degree in social work and minor in African & African-American studies from The College at Brockport. While a student at the College, he studied abroad at the University of Ghana in West Africa. Mr. Johnson now works for UnCommon Schools Inc., an organization voted #1 in America for Public Charter School education, and he is on track to pursue a PhD program. An experienced advocate, he has presented and published research on Racism and Inequality in the 2014 McNair Scholars Journal. Johnson is a member of Black Young Professionals (BYP), an organization designed to foster growth and improve the overall quality of life for those in need.
