Normativity, Reasons, and Wrongness: How to be a Two-tier Theorist

Abstract

In On What Matters, Derek Parfit (2011) powerfully advances what we have elsewhere called the two-tier view of practical reasons – a view that we ourselves have advocated. We open by re-visiting this view, and go on to discuss, among other things, our view of the nature of practical reasons and their strengths, drawing some contrasts with Parfit’s views along the way.
