In this action research project I examined the kindergarten screening results of the 2007 kindergarten class, interviewed the kindergarten screeners and surveyed the kindergarten teachers in the district in order to determine if students who completed a year of Universal Pre-Kindergarten were more academically prepared than their peers who did not. Academic preparedness was measured based on a student's ability to recognize colors, letters, numbers and shapes as well as their ability to understand personal information such as name, address and body parts.
