Event Title
The Total Synthesis of Trigonoine B
Location
Edwards 106A
Document Type
Oral/PowerPoint Presentation (10 minutes and 5 minute Q and A)
Description
This presentation identifies the ongoing research to synthesize trigonoine B. This novel, biologically active alkaloid belongs to the genus Trigonostemon comprising of approximately 50 species that originate in the subtropical regions of Asia, 10 of which are commonly found in herbal medicines used by natives of the Yunnan Province; known for treating ailments such as asthma and diarrhea. Aside from these therapeutic qualities, the compound itself has shown weak anti-HIV activity as well with an EC50 value of 17.6 mg/mL with a TI of 4.48. The proposed pathway is a seven step convergent synthesis with each step being supported using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, GC/MS, FTIR, and MP for characterization.
