Description

The daughter of John and Celinda Weatherwax Denio, Elizabeth Harriet Denio was born on the family's farm outside of Albion in 1842. She attended the famed Phipps Union Seminary and eventually studied art history at Leipzig, Berlin, and Heidelberg. In 1902 she was appointed to a position as a lecturer of art history at the University of Rochester, becoming the first female member of the institution's faculty.
